Andersen® Windows and Doors

Based in Bayport, MN, Andersen designs and builds windows that are among the best-performing products available. That’s why we use them. Andersen windows are made from Fibrex® — a proprietary material that is 60 percent PVC and 40 percent wood fiber. Twice as strong as vinyl, it retains its stability and helps maintain a weathertight seal; blocks thermal transfer nearly 700 times better than aluminum; and won’t fade, flake, blister, chalk or peel.

LP SmartSide® Trim & Siding

Sturdy and reliable (with a 50-year warranty) the LP Smartside® exterior siding system is engineered for strength, performance and protection against fungal decay. Smartside comes in longer lengths, so there are fewer seams for a more tailored look. Because it’s manufactured in Minnesota, less fossil fuel is consumed getting product to the job site.


Gonyea builds with 30-year architectural shingles for a distinctive, three-dimensional look. Because of their greater thickness, architectural shingles have better wind tear-off resistance. They are also highly fire-resistant.


Most of the wood we use is Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) Certified. Certification ensures that the wood comes from responsibly managed forests that provide environmental, social and economic benefits. For optimal structural integrity, we use #2 grade or better studs to ensure straighter wall and ceiling lines.


Gonyea new home performance starts with a high-efficiency furnace, humidifier, and programmable thermostat. Larger ducting improves performance and reduces heating and cooling costs.

A sealed sump basket with passive radon mitigation system is standard equipment. No maintenance and no worries about radon in your new home.

Many of our models are built with zoned heating and an air-to-air exchanger, (always an option for custom homes). New homes are built tightly to save energy, but this can have a negative effect on air quality. An air-to-air exchanger (also known as an HRV) brings fresh air into the home, and sends stale air out of the home. This prevents indoor air pollutants such as mold, pet dander, plant pollen, allergens and other compounds from building up in your home.

Engineered Sheathing and Subflooring

Instead of ordinary plywood, we use engineered sheathing and subflooring. These high-performance materials are engineered to resist warping and delamination due to weather conditions. Our engineered sheathing resists deflection, delamination and warping because the wood and adhesives work together to create a stronger panel; strong enough to resist racking and shape distortion even under high wind and earthquake forces.

Our subflooring is backed by a 50-Year warranty against delamination and manufacturing defects. Because they are made from small, fast growing trees, these materials are also environmentally friendly.

Superior Construction

Lower level floors are warmer, and dampness is banished thanks to 8 inches of clean rock and a poly vapor barrier below your basement floor that seals out radon and water.

A poured concrete subfloor underneath our tile floors makes the tile crack resistant.

Twenty-inch floor trusses eliminate the need for soffits and mitigate noise from above. In the basement, this gives you a true 9-foot ceiling. So if you’re wondering why the basement feels like the upper level, it’s because of this type of construction.

Insulation & Dry Thermal Barrier

Gonyea far exceeds standard insulation requirements to create super-efficient comfort and economy. Your home’s insulation system includes a whole home vapor barrier (to prevent moisture penetration), R49 attic insulation and R21 insulation in the exterior walls.

Rim joists are insulated with closed cell spray foam to block air and moisture leaks and prevent mold.

Drainboard insulation on the outside of the foundation keeps the cold on the exterior, not the interior where it can cause condensation. Superior foundation insulation also helps in exterior drainage and has three times the warranty length of traditional membrane water proofing alone.

Dry Basements

Our foundations are 8-inch poured concrete instead of concrete block. This is better because water doesn’t have a chance to penetrate into the block cavities through cracks in the mortar joints and infiltrate your home.

We use the top-quality Watchdog® Waterproofing System (15-year warranty) that features a tough, flexible, spray-applied membrane to seamlessly bridge cracks and seal out water. Along with our specially-designed drain tile system and sump basket, you will have the peace of mind of never having to worry about a wet basement.

Special Touches

Rough-ins for water filtration and water softener make future installation easy and more economical.

Landscape irrigation systems are included with Gonyea homes. This eliminates one of the biggest “after-closing” costs of owning a new home.
